The New Passione Cello A and D Steel Strings

After years of research, we have found a specific material component for producing these inspiring warm and rich sounding cello strings.
In combination with a newly designed spinning technology, they
represent a new generation of PIRASTRO steel strings.
They offer a remarkably full-bodied and round sound, with a complex overtone spectrum.

Technical Information

  • Inspiring pearly resonance combined with great longevity
  • Complex overtone spectrum, inspiring warmth
  • Remarkable full-bodied, rich and round tone
  • Precise and focused sound up to the highest register
  • Outstanding quick response
  • Smooth transition from A to D string

Gauges

The choice of the three different gauges, allows musicians to choose their
preferred gauge. Thus making it possible to respond to the individual
tension and sound requirements of their instruments.

As a rule of thumb:

  • The thicker the string is, the more powerful the sound and the higher the tension.
  • A thinner string will produce a brighter sound, however this does not mean that the sound is weaker or looses power.

Rosin

We advise to use our »Cello« rosin for the steel core cello Passione strings.

String gauges and technical information

Passione viola strings are available in three gauges with a difference of 1/4 PM in diameter.
As a rule of thumb:

  • The thicker the string is, the more powerful is the sound and the higher is the tension. Strings in stark gauge can be used with a heavier bow and are therefore especially suitable for soloists.
  • A thinner string will produce a brighter sound, however this does not mean that the sound is weaker or looses power. Strings in weich gauge are especially suitable to chamber music due to their easier response and even intonation.

...about Passione Viola A steel/chromesteel string:
The new viola Passione is an incredibly powerful viola A string.
It's quite a remarkable change in a steel string. I usually don't use steel strings because
those that I have tried lack the depth and roundness which I love.  However, with this
string, I do find it has those qualities of depth and roundness. And the volume!!!
It's incredible how it projects. It's quite an advance in steel strings.

New Evah Pirazzi Double Bass strings
“Solo” and “Weich”

Evah Pirazzi ’BASS’ is an ideal string for musicians playing both Arco and Pizzicato. First and foremost the bow response is excellent and when playing pizzicato the long sustain fully and freely evolves.

The following choices are available:

  • Evah Pirazzi Orchestra (¾ size only)
  • Evah Pirazzi Orchestra "Weich":
Due to the reduced string tension the playability is very easy. It has a pronounced core sound and compared to the "Standard" orchestra set the sound is brighter and growlier with a little more sustain.
  • Evah Pirazzi "Solo"

Pirastro’s Evah Pirazzi “Bass” color code:

At the tailpiece end:
